Dr. Jorge Duque Silva · Over 1,500 earlobe repairs
Torn, stretched or gauged earlobe? A 30-minute outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia — no pain, no hospitalisation, immediate recovery.
Does this sound familiar?
The earlobe is one of the areas most prone to deterioration. These are the most common causes we treat on a daily basis.
An accidental tug, a heavy earring, or trauma can tear the earlobe completely or partially. This is the most common reason for seeking treatment.
Prolonged use of heavy earrings stretches the piercing hole over the years, leaving the earlobe sagging and aged.
People who have worn ear expanders are left with a large hole that does not close on its own. This minor surgery allows the lobe to be reconstructed with a natural appearance.
Differences in size or shape between the two lobes, whether present from birth or resulting from poorly performed previous procedures.
The procedure
Earlobe repair surgery (lobuloplasty) is an outpatient surgical procedure that repairs and reconstructs the earlobe. It is performed in the office under local anesthesia and takes approximately 30 minutes per earlobe.
Dr. Duque uses a surgical technique tailored to each individual case, based on the cause and severity of the condition. The goal is always the same: a natural-looking, proportionate earlobe with minimal scarring, imperceptible in most cases.
The sutures used are of the highest quality available on the market. They reduce the risk of hypertrophic scarring or keloids.
Send us your caseWhy Dr. Duque
Most clinics offering earlobe repair are aesthetic medicine or dermatology centres. Dr. Duque is something different.
He specializes in face and neck. He is not a cosmetic doctor who also performs earlobe surgeries: he is a facial plastic surgeon with residency training in otolaryngology.
With over 18 years of experience and more than 1,500 earlobe repair surgeries, Dr. Duque has developed specific protocols for every type of case, including the most complex ones.
The goal is not just to close the earlobe, but to reconstruct it with the proper shape and proportions so that the result is natural and harmonious with the rest of the ear.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The patient is awake and comfortable throughout the procedure, with no need for sedation or hospitalization.
There is no need for time off work. The patient can resume normal activities the same day. No packing, no bulky bandages, no severe restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions
The procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes per earlobe. If performed on both ears, the total time is approximately one hour. The patient can go home immediately afterward.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The only discomfort is the initial prick of the anesthetic, which is minimal. During the procedure, the patient feels no pain. In the postoperative period, there may be a slight feeling of tightness for the first few days.
In most cases, the patient can resume work the same day of the procedure. There is no need for time off work in simple cases. In more complex cases, Dr. Duque will assess whether a few days of rest are needed.
The waiting period before wearing earrings again depends on the type of procedure and each patient's recovery. In general, it is recommended to wait between 2 and 3 months. Dr. Duque will indicate the appropriate time during follow-up visits.
Dr. Duque uses specific surgical techniques and high-quality sutures to minimize scarring as much as possible. In most cases, scars fade to be nearly imperceptible within the first month. The healing process varies from patient to patient.
Social Security does not cover earlobe surgery performed for cosmetic purposes. This is established by Royal Decree 1030/2006, which expressly excludes all cosmetic procedures not resulting from an accident, illness, or congenital malformation. Furthermore, even in the rare cases where it might be covered, waiting lists exceed one year. With Dr. Duque, the consultation and procedure are completed within days, with personalized care and no waiting.
Earlobe repair can be performed starting at age 15, depending on the individual case. For minors, parental or legal guardian consent is required. Dr. Duque will evaluate each case on an individual basis.
